long or short bed???

Long bed.

It's only a couple more feet, but it pays off when you actually use your truck to haul ****.

Try putting 50 8 foot 2x4's in a 6 foot bed.

If you load your trailer properly you wont have that swaying problem it also has alot to do with your trailer. how long your tung is how wide your frame is how far back your axles are. My short box dodge tow just about as good as my 4 door long bed chev both pictured in this post straight as an arrow down the road if you dont beleive me. you can follow me sometime. I prefer my little truck because I get better gas milage. I am not saying that a short bed std cab is best for towing but it will get the job done very well. the only guy on here i think thats seen me tow my trailer and jeep is joop ask him how my truck does. oh and if im going 60 70 80 mph I think my trailer is towing pretty straight or I dont think I would do it. Just telling you my experiance

Regular cab Long Box or Extended cab Short Box. *I* wouldn't want to tow with a short bed std cab on a regular basis, atleast anything 4wheeler heavy (sub 3500 lbs with a quality, but light trailer, thats different).

I'm guessing its a 4-runner your towing. Whats it weigh? Bet it close to 4500 unless its well hacked. I currently tow with a late model 1/2 ton (reg cab, long box), the truck has plenty of work and tranny to get the job done (even with the "small" V8), but I need to use a weight distributing hitch to get the trailer right and a bigger/heavier truck just makes towing "feel" better.

Long WB is nice for towing, shorter WB is nicer for maneuverability. If you don't need the bed length, look into a 3/4t or so, extended cab, short box. Good compromise between interior room, wheel base and maneuverability towing and not. Lots of good deals on CL if you don't want the newest truck.

I have towed with a short wheel based rig. No matter how you setup what you are towing I have found more stability with a long wheelbase. I have an extra cab long box and it tows like a dream.

I would advize against a reg cab shorty for towing purposes...Strongly advize at least a long bed, preferably diesel, but a big block works ok too. What happened with that '97 Powerstroke you posted about abit ago???
This is what I was refering to with the 60 uphill thing.

If you answered "Well I can do 60 up a hill with my short bed" you're an idiot.. That has nothing to do with why we bring up the wheelbase.

I agree with zukkev. Gotta be a long bed, after that it's just what you have the money for.

And whoever said you can't tell the difference between an F150 and an F450.. Jump back in the honda and just go from point A to point B and forget everything else. I'd like to hear what a "heavy boat" is.

We tow with a long bed. Love it (but for the girlie reasons, not the whole "it tows bettter, long wheelbase crap)! It's nice having room in the bed to throw everything and not have to strategically pack to make it fit. I can bring as much crap as I want camping without the hubby telling me there is not enough room. Also, when it came time to shopping for a camper, we had a lot more options.
As KarlVP stated, it's nice for hauling stuff as well. I do a lot of gardening, and I know a short bed would not have fit the 3.5 yards of compost I needed for my veggie garden. Hell, that barely fit in the long bed, but at least we didn't have to make 2 trips.

I knew I should have been more specific when I saw you reading.. They have been "suggesting" as far as I can tell from the original post and pictures. That they meant reg cab. I should know better then to not make it perfectly clear :corn:

So which product best soothes your discomfort about internet posts that were not even directed at you, Vagisil or Monistat?

Yea, one is set up properly and will get you there in a timely much safer manor. Or you can piss everyone off on the road. A guy at work here tows his flatfender behind his late 70's Datsun 4 banger that empty is over it's weight limit because of the bumpers, lumber rack, etc etc.. He goes up the pass at 25.. Yea he can do it. Just like you could with the F150, but should you?

Now for a post that is directed at you...

It's all relative. I don't see too many loaded semi-trucks going up the passes at even 25mph, either. That overloaded little Datsun probably isn't much if any less safe than the doofus in a bombed 1 ton diesel pulling 15k pounds at 80mph.

Myself, I like a pretty wide margin of safety. That means a true 3/4 or 1 ton for towing/hauling.

They do better then 25, trust me. Just cause you fly by them at 60-70 doesn't mean they are going THAT slow.

And I'll just leave the rest of your statement alone.. I feel like being nice today :haha:

I'm starting to think I need to change my sig.. Whatever I say, think opposite and that is Boomers answer.. It'll make replys easy for everyone

I have a 1/2ton short bed ext. cab. Tows and hauls fine, it gets the job done. If you have a choice I would recomend the long box for ease of hauling, I can not tell you how much of a pain in the ass it can be not to have that extra space.

Tow with a standard bed quadcab. Tows like a dream. Saying that, if I had the chance to go to a longbed....I would do it in a second

:awesomework: +1

This is what I do as well. Having a short wheelbase SUCKS. sure my Jeep CRD could pull my 4runner up a hill at 60, but it just isn't a pleasure to drive... :puke: :puke: :puke:
