Sammi rearend overhaul? whos done one?

the sammi i just bought has a nasty growl in the rear 3rd, and itll be a bit before i find affordable built axles.

so.. i have done d44's and 12 bolts before but never the drop out style. are they easy to rebearing and set? is there a write-up somewhere on one? a good one?

Its actually pretty easy. Just leave the retainer clips on the carrier caps and remove the adjusters with the caps. Replace the bearings with all the shims in the origional location and put it back together. After its together paint the teath and check it. Samis like 7-10 thous backlash. For the price of sami 3rds you can just throw in a good one cheaper than you can buy the bearings. When that one goes tits up grap another.

ok, so um, mikey, you gonna help us right? lol.. i have not opened it up yet just know it growls bad. i looked for a cheap 3rd to pop in but nothing found yet.

This is a write up of one of our local guys about replacing the rear bearings.

Trailtough.com sells factory replacement parts for $55.00 each side on the axle bearings.

The only thing he would add is its easier to take the backing plate off first to allow more room to get at the bearing.

They are easy....but I always order an extra crush sleeve...semms like I screw one up eveery time!:looser:
