Flex!!!

i figured what the hell i need some brutal honesty so lets here it.

Honestly, flex is way overated. Don't waste your time posing and taking pictures when it really doesn't do much for the vehicle. Sure you want the tires to move a bit but there is no reason to go for the record and many reasons not to.:cool:

flex? what's that?

What record? And why not take some pics while having fun, I find it fun to flex my jeep on stuff. Oh, and why is flex over rated? I hope I am just failing to get the joke.

Because like I said it doesn't do that much to help the performance of your rig. It's not a joke, you asked for a honest answer.

I don't mean to nit pick, but with flex you keep your tires on the ground. Keeping traction is one of the most important things in offroading. I hate to admit it but I am open front and rear right now, and I go places that people say I can't because I have flex. If I didn't have as much flex as I do, I wouldn't have the three tires on the ground that are NEEDED to keep traction. Even with lockers, if you have tires in the air you aren't performing to your greatest potential. What are your arguments in the other direction.

Yes/no---kind of a double edge sword. Even if you are flexed out and the tires are on the ground--your cog has shot thru the roof and the body becomes a pendulum--but yes having your tires on the ground is certainly better than not...

another reason I am contemplating keeping the leaf springs in the back. They flex some but when the front flexes completely out the rig stays standing up.

You also have to consider contact pressure though. If you had a vehicle weight of 4000lbs, you'd have roughly 1000lbs per wheel of contact pressure when all 4 tires are on the ground. Now say you're on some obstacle that requires more traction than 1000 lbs of pressure can overcome (negating for ease any frictional force calculations)... If you pick a tire off the ground during the obstacle, all your weight is divided back on the other 3 thus giving 1333lbs on pressure which may be just enough to hook up and get you over. This of course is assuming you're locked F/R.

Yes flex is good, to a point. A flexy open rig will go more places than a non flexy open rig. But a locked f/r is the key and far more important than flex. And sometimes picking tire will give you more friction to get through/over obstacles.

Didn't forget a thing, I have a wall of trophies to show for it....:haha: That's the hole point, I've been there and am speaking from experience.:;

Keep looking and you'll find ramp pics of all the other guys too. I'm sure they'll tell you how important flex is too.:tank:

While no longer a SNORT member, you wil not find a picture of me on a ramp anywhere :haha: :haha:
