I have a 96 suburban with a 6.5 diesel and a 4L80E with 212000 on the odometer. I bought a larger pan for the tranny and was going to change the fluid and filter and add the larger pan but I'm not sure if I dare take that chance. The previous owner couldn't remember the last time he changed the fluid and filter and he has put over 100k on it. The tranny has firm and solid shifts other than it occasionally shutters when down shifting out of overdrive or it may be when the tourque converter unlocks. Any thoughts or suggestions?

its a roll of the dice...with that many miles your gonna need to put a trans in it anyways..fresh ATF is always better than brown/black ATF..

I have done dozens like that. You won't know anything until you see what sediments are sitting in the pan. If there is a butt load I would be worried--otherwise if a little no worries...

Regardless you will know a rough idea on how good the trans is by whats sitting in the pan.
