Well I find myself on this site more and more and don't care to much for the demeanor of some of the guys on pirate so I am gonna move my build over here. I got a chassis in a trade and some unimogs for a smoking deal. the chassis is a bruiser-like copy I have a growing family and so this is gonna be a family rig - I use the skinny pedal sometimes but I am mostly a slow trail rider. I know the rig is gonna be heavy so everything beefed up. Shes gonna weigh alot. I appreciate any good opinions and constructive criticism but if you wanna flame then :flipgotcha:.

2 steering unimog 419 axles
Got a 440 on pane - tf727 203/205 doubler.
mild engine build and a build tranny manual valve body.

4 link front and rear.

2.25" in 7075 aluminum lowers with 3.0 ballistic joints
2" 7075 uppers with 1.25 hiems
A little overkill but I did some trading on parts and had the joints and hiems already so why the hell not. She's gonna be a heavy bitch so I decided to stick with the 440.

Unimog 419 axle stripped down

Re: 4 seater bruiser copy build - family rig

are you really going to need the doubler with the reduction of the uni-moogs?

Re: 4 seater bruiser copy build - family rig

I doubt it but needed to use the ford 205 cause my mog dif is drivers side. I figure a good way to do it was dodge 203/ford 205 doubler. then i get gearing as well as a driver drop tc

Curious to know how much the mog axles weigh

Stripped down they weigh around 800lbs but the rotors are heavy as hell. I let one rotor slip out of my hand and it hit my toe from about 4 inches and it basically smashed my toe and i lost my nail. I think mine weigh in at around 1000lbs. they are rated at 4+ tons and are beefy. another guy running the exact same axles told me that they had chromo axles from the factory but I yet to find and documentation to back that up. I think they are gonna be great but they defiantly are a pain to get set up and do the pinion conversions.

The best machinist i know, luckily is a friend of mine and after searching for someone that could do my pinions he steeped up and just does immaculate work i can't say enough about the things he is capable of. :****:

Re: 4 seater bruiser copy build - family rig

A little background on my choice of motor and tranny/tc I had a motor home that blew a tranny then i got a motor (440 with tranny) to replace the 318 that was in the motor home. After I got everything switched out and took the RV out the replacement tranny took a crap. Well then this build started and I thought what the hell the 440 only had 60,000 original miles on it. Lets use it, only problem was it was a 2 wheel drive tranny. So I got a 4 wheel drive tranny from a small block mopar but it won't bolt up to a Big block but the tail shafts are the same. Well if im gonna tear it down i figured make it better. So new race clutches, reverse manual valve body, bolt in sprag, new TC bla, bla bla. When I finally broke into the big block tranny I was glad to find a 4 gear planetary which is just a litter stronger. I then decided if I got the motor out lets beef it up a bit. My friend build mopar race engines and I took it to him and he said it had good factory heads, the good crank, and good rods. So he suggested bore it, new rings and pistons and a cam. he thought I could make some good torque and power. heres some pics

Re: 4 seater bruiser copy build - family rig

I also needed a drivers drop TC and I had a ford one laying around so I figured use a dodge 203/ford 205 that gives me driver drop 205 and extra gearing
