Birmingham, Hoover, and Cullman #5 on the top 5 poluted cities in the US... loller.gif .... Seen that on yahoo this morning. Its all them damn coal fire power plants. :flipoff1: :****:

Yes, I have been watching this for years, even serving on several committees at the Hearth, Patio And Barbecue Association. The EPA standard is called PM2.5 and it is going to hit the southeast hard. The coal power plants are certainly the poluters, but other industries are going to have to clean up, because that is the way politics works. You could see a "Wood Stove Changeout" here like has been done in so many cities where you get a discount on a new wood stove or gas appliance for turning in an old, pre EPA Certified wood stove. These would have been manufacturered before 1984.

One of the main issues with PM2.5 is that where the polution is (who is required to clean it up) may not be the one poluting due to wind. Examples are BuckHead could have to cleanup for Atlanta, or Hoover could have to clean up for what is done in Birmingham.

The air seems cleaner in Birmingham lately... Is it due to all the plants being shut down or operating much less?

The bad thing about all of this is that we will all pay for it. Alabama power isn't just going to eat any expense or lose profit. We'll see the bill.
