Hopping on the bike on the 18th after work and plan to be in Knoxville Friday afternoon with a hotel stop someplace along the way. Trip out is interstate, no frills just get there. Roughly 750 miles with an overnight. Simple but boring I know.

Staying with some former XRRA/KOH racers, I don't name drop laughing1 Friday night through Monday morning :drinkers:

I took Monday and Tuesday off to get home, so plenty of time to NOT be on the interstates until I get back to the midwest. I will hit Deals Gap for sure, been there a few years ago. From here I am unsure where to go. I could head NE from the gap and clip Virginia and head through Kentucky or traverse west through Tennessee for an entire day checking out sites, good food, etc.

I tend to go A-B on my bike trips and want to SEE THINGS this time and smell the roses with many stops for anything from history, food, sites, landmarks, tours. No real agenda is the agenda

I will add suggestions to my GPS and try my best to hit as many places as I can in a the time frame I have.

Thanks

Kelly and Miles told me how beautiful Cherokee, NC is. Its east of Deals Gap on the Great Smoky Mountain Expressway (74) to Whittier then north a bit . All I know is that there is a Harrahs Casino there loller.gif Then head north towards Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and hit Dollywood in there!!!

You might want to look into the Gatlinburg area, eastern Tn and make your way back through the Smoky Mtns towards Maggie Valley and North Carolina. Just got back from there and it was beautiful drive. thumb.gif

Last time out I was on this

Ride the Blue Ridge Parkway. Mt. Pigsah has a small hotel that caters to bikers. Rustic, but with nice restaurant. Only place I ever stayed that has a wake up knock, as there are no phones in the rooms.

We hit 441 in the dark on accident with no sleep for 2 days at 2 am and it was still cool enough to wake us us. I wanted to start at Gatlinburg and head East from there until it wasn't cool anymore, then turn back around and get a cabin. :woody:
Totally beautiful country.
That said, I'm going in OCT, not ****ing AUG laughing1

I need to talk Haley into letting me "rent" of his many bikes and run it with you Bones. drool :****:

Gotta go from Dragon to Fontana dam, down cherahola skyway to tellico plains over to murphy and then down to to suches and then stay at TWO WHEELS ONLY B & B through hellen GA and dahlonega and back over mtn to chatsworth ga were I live, then up to nooga tn. Awesome loop!

I agree with Gatlinburg and Cherokee, but be sure to run through 321 through Townsend, takes you to the Dragon via foothills parkway. Beautiful loop ride. Lots of historical stuff in Cades Cove, off of 321 at the end of 73.

should have done this trip last year. we looked into doing Deals Gap area and never commited to it. now my bike is forsale and I am on the brink of deployment. booyang
