Ive been building a custom set of 14 bolts for ol showtime, got em done bout 2 weeks ago. now jus waiting on shafts to get here. i wanted to keep cost down somewhat so i decided to run stock Rockwell inner bell with slightly modified stock knuckle, had a custom high steer are made, stock spindle an went with Ouverson super 8 hubs. did a custom wildwood caliper bracket. Decided to go with Ouverson 47 spline stubs an D-flanges, Violator joints 40 spline inners which are sealed off with a set of revolution 14bolt seals . then had the 14 bolt spool machined for 40 spline. Now i know that the weak link is always gunna go somewhere else which my atlas will be next thing to be letting me down. so Ive been thinking for the past couple months about a custom case from scs or going to a straight drive case from them. like a monster truck or the big tractor pulling guys run. because they offer a 12.66'' offset which i know i can make happen with a lil fabing 8) time will only tell

Cool. Why the step up in tube size? And why are people making the fuse the inner shaft all the time? To save a possible spindle? I would think that trying to fish little chucnks of inner axle out of the tubes / side gears on the trail is a pretty big PITA also though ... sometimes folks have to take the other side apart to bang them out from that side.

How long is it taking to get shafts out of Ouverson?

was afraid of getting spool to thin at the bearings. coulda went dana 80 rout an had enough meet. but i already had 14b. an i know some guys with more motor then me an bigger 49 inch tire (scott) who run ouverson 40 spline inners with no failure. so im gunna give it a shot. if i break 1 a year cool. if i break often then ill sell axles an do a set of 80's with 47 spline inners... its jus metal an time 8)

Those are very nice.

On the case note i know a guy that used to race with us made his on case out of all aluminum and made it chain drive. Dont know what type or kind it was but to change ratios he would swap out sprockets. Now he didnt have a low or high since he was racing but it flat worked. He was running around 600hp and this guy is brutal on stuff and he never had a problem.

14-bolt and 80 use the same carrier bearing. To get 2" there you have to use a different carrier bearing with a bigger ID and a custom spool. But that's definitely not budget. Love the axles.

I admire your desire to be different TC but seems that your headed right back to the Rockwell direction...why didnt ya stick with the Oversons Rockwells in Showtime and be done? IM wO they woulda held up to everything you can throw at em...they are bad ass axles ya built

wrong they are not the same bearing

What does a custom case cost in in that badass rig TC ??????

And If u go with one of those cases what's next
Trans, another case, drive shafts, etc etc????b :tc

By far showtime is one of my favorite rigs

You sure? You got part numbers? I had looked them up at one time and thought they were the same. I'm trying again now and can't seem to find either.

Looks like d80 cup = 469 = 4.125 OD, cone = 453x = 2.25 ID.
14-bolt cup = 387as = 3.8125 OD, cone = 382a = 2.25 ID.

So you are right. Thanks.

Seems like the drive shafts would twist/fail before it got to the Atlas. I think I'd play with different size/thickness tube on the shafts before I broke an Atlas everytime I went out. (don't know what Atlas warranty is)

My way of thinking: Carry a couple spare shafts and ride all day instead of one failure and go home. :dunno:

You been doing this a hell of a lot longer than me....What's the thinking behind you wanting the Atlas to be the weak point? I know you don't want a weak point, but you've worked hard and spent a lot of money to make it the Atlas. (from an outside perspective...not trying to be an ass.)

I understand Wut Ur saying . Ill only let the atlas break 2 times. An ill be talking to scs bout a straight drive case
