Does anyone else have a Facebook page for the town they live in? I don't mean personally just a page for the community? Middletown Ohio has a few, but the main one is full of the craziest stuff you could imagine. Its so bad that I started wondering if there is another city anywhere as trashy and ghetto as my home town. A few examples are daily heroine ODs, shootings, and on Valentine's day a girl posted a video of her ex banging a prostitute in the woods.

I can't link it, but i will add anyone that wants to see the traim wreck

It gives idiots a voice. Our town had about 20 to 40 people write in a fictional character that frequents these sites for their Mayoral vote. It is ridiculous. There are 5 Oakland TN Speaks pages. They used to be somewhat helpful for community events and stuff but now they are a cesspool.

I can't believe what some of these idiots post. People buying and selling food stamps, threatening to kill someone and post pictures that show they have been stalking said someone. Girls offering sex for a ride to the store, its crazy, and i can screen shot every example i have said, they're all true! Lol

You may have heard of it but I just read a book called "Hillbilly Elegy" by J.D. Vance. He grew up in Middletown and talks about the upward movement of Appalachian people to middle class. It's a pretty good read. You might get more insight to your town through that book. He shares multiple stories just like what you are describing.

I live next door to the house he grew up in, and wrote about. When his interviews started showing up on the interweb it became a small tourist attraction. There was actually a history teacher from Massachusetts that talked to my neighbor and me about the city and our neighborhood.

I have this book on my wish list, on my nook. Been wondering if it was good

Re:

One of the many reasons Facebook should become less of an hourly ritual for the intelligent folks that are still left. I check FB in the morning and sometimes at night before I go to bed. I may or may not post on there for months. It's great for buying or selling crap. And/or finding long lost humans phone numbers. The rest of it is just filler for real life.

It's a small world! That's crazy you live next door. I thought it was a pretty good book. My dad's parents moved to Indianapolis after being raised dirt floor poor with an outhouse. The book made me think a lot about the similarities of my family and my friend's families.

That house is in foreclosure now and sitting empty. I bought mine in 2007 as a flipper but the economy took a **** right after so now i am stuck. No one wants to move to this town, and i don't want to deal with renters yet. There has been a slight up tick in the last 2 years but i still don't take the trash out without a gun.

Wow. I am so damn blessed. I've always known, but it gets reinforced almost daily. My town of 6K people is pretty awesome, even if we are in KS.

Yeah, thats crazy…I've traveled a lot and seen good and bad. Every time I hear something like that, I'm glad I live in a clean, quiet corner of the country with natural beauty and little crime or tolerance for offenders.

I'm hoping you're exaggerating about the gun. I live in a decent sized town outside of Chattanooga TN and forget to lock my doors half the time. I do hear gun shots from time to time but it's usually a neighbor sighting in a new gun or killing a possum. Some kids knocked down mailboxes a few years back but they caught them and made them fix them. Parents made them apologize in person, which was hilarious since one was crying. Big ole boy too.

There is an alley where our trash goes, no telling who or what is back there, so 9 times out of 10 i am packing

There is a couple for my home town. Like hometown news, what's happing, etc but the best one is -----town SUCKS. And it auto adds everyone that is from the county. Once a day there is folks on there saying how shitting it is and then folks saying it's great and the others are stupid. It is always good for a laugh, and there is always crazy stuff on there

I live in Warner robins(wartown) ga. Crime is getting worse. Had several stragglers end up in the back yard last week called on an active burglar at 1140am at my neighbors house. This is my self defense drawer in my box.

I can vouch for said shady alley but I bet no one enters his yard with his dog, I'm never spooked by a dog but yours made me keep a eye on him.
