Re:

I believe there's a state Park close by if you're looking to camp. Crawl magazine was posting pictures from there on Facebook today.

304-752-6840, 304-784-4464, 304-784-6666, 304-369-7025, new campground right by the trailhead. We also opened the new trail "long crawl" on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Long Crawl is wider, flatter then Shaft and not as hard. It's got multiple lines at most of the hard places and ez sections in between. There's a short rock section close to the top off the left side that will be hard to impossible for anyone to make. We also walked another section at the top that is promising. My tech skills are 0 but I'll try to figure out to load some pics from my $60 Droid, don't hold your breath though.

Those numbers are for a new campground at the trailhead. It's smaller than Chief Logan but requires no trailering to and from the trailhead.

Ran Bearwallow last week with John Herrick and some guys out of North Carolina. We had a great time and finally got around to opening Long Crawl. The guys worked all day Tuesday clearing it so John could be the first tires on Wednesday Morning. We also ran Shaft, Gatekeeper and Double Barrel but due to extensive carnage we didn't have time to open Slide. Here are a few pics.

The guys from HCC/HCOR spent a few hours last week clearing Long Crawl. It's over 1.5 miles long and after some exploration we discovered it continues for another mile to an access road above. The upper section is much harder with a vertical ledge roof high and an extremely challenging climb that I can only describe as a staircase. It climbs right, then 90 degrees left then back to the right. It's next on the list.

We will be coming down a few weeks. Is there anywhere close for gas, food etc. Or should we bring a few gallons with us? Should we get a permit online?

There's plenty of gas and food in Logan, 5-10 minutes away. Print the maps off here because I'm going to guess that the new trails are not marked or on the maps. If you guys are early starters you may want to download them, I believe the trail head office opens at 9.
