My own toy thang.....

Well it was time to give my rig some luvin and DE-virginlyze my new shop... It had been used and abused for some years and it was time to simplify it and just change it up...

What sparked it was it was time to get rid of the msd--I felt it was giving no real benefit and just simply eating up secondary ignition parts.

Like any of my wire up projects--always have all your ducks in a row and ALWAYS know what your looking... So i always like to have a game plan and that starts with schematics.

So in a nutshell I am going with push button start and master ignition switch. I am going to toss the factory fuse panel and move all the fused circuits to the passenger side along with relays and such.

Next step--start pulling wire and try to identify circuits for later..

I also dove under the hood since when I redid it years ago I retained a bunch of the factory routing. Since i am tossing the factory relays and moving the fuse center I can simplify it.

I modified the line lock bracket and added the push start and found a sweet spot for the ignition switch. I also got behind the cluster roughed it.

Pulling more wires on the passenger side under the hood and you can't beat a good F crimp tool.....

Passenger side behind the glove box wire loom got roughed in and new relay spot found and mounted.

You have no idea how good it felt to pop my shops cherry--so much time and effort went into getting the new shop to this point--never felt so good to make such a mess :cool:

I ended up doing more work under the hood than I thought I would. I was planning on not even having to touch the engine portion of the harness but it ended up being in the way of mounting the stock coil back in the stock location. That was fine since I ended up redoing every ground..

So I ended up pulling every strand of wire and revamping every circuit. I also pulled all the toy relays and used the same relay for everything. When you are used to domestic vehicles this toy stuff throws ya for a little loop since toyota will toggle the ground side on the switch's (vs toggle the power on most domestics) but it does make using the switch's to control a relay simple and still use a single fused circuit for relay control(I like to keep that principal idea on my wire ups).

But I ended up getting the driver side all finished up.

And as ya can see I found a sweet spot for the ignition switch..

Time for the new switch panel--again going with simplification plus I have always wanted to use these style of switch's. I also made the panel removable since that hole is the best method for getting into the center of the dash.

But I made them color coded so I can easily remember them (blue for air, green for exterior lights, yellow for dash and red for fan shut down)..

Before I also used the battery light in the dash for the check engine lamp and went with a dedicated lamp in the switch panel.

And the last piece of the puzzle installed..

I also replaced both optima's since they were dead finally after 6 years and ran her hot. I did some hot laps down the road and it truly runs much smoother now.
