My really slow 4runner build up

I don't give two ****'s, just leave them, I just love how the site admin and everybody else allow's all the BS in my thread, yet one comment and I am warned in another select person's thread, just calling some BS is all.

Hey darius.. You have not seen the other post's I have deleted from the this thread and others..

Thank you.

4runner is looking good, I like the low stance for stability, and the droop setup for those highcentered situations.

Got the winch mounted tonight, it's got about 1/2" of clearence, hopefully just enough room for a 22x19 radiator in there, doubt it though. I really wanted the winch inside the engine compartment since I already don't quite have a vertical approach (more like 89 degree:D ). It's worth it to me do go with something like a 16x25 or something. It hang's 3" below the frame, but it is well behind the tires.

can you still engage and disengage the winch throught the fender or something or will you have to pop the hood for access:wtf:

:redneck:

I was thinking the same

I just won't disengage it, It's just one of those thing's, just have to sacrifice creature comfort's for performance, I will be able to reach it if I really reach. I guess I just won't get stuck:D

Hmm... that would drive me nuts having to power out all the time, especially with a winch that's not a speed demon like the 8000.

I can't remember how the insides of the 8000 look, but can't you pull the allen bolts holding the clutch on and rotate it 180 so you could reach it from underneath?

Not to mention burning up the brake. I also am curious about the reasoning behind mounting it backwards... :corn:

Just weld an extension to the engagement knob so that it can be twisted from above. I think I'd cut if flush, then weld a 3/8ths wobbly and an 24inch extension to it (or something like that), and a little lever on the top. That way, you can just pop the hood, and twist it from above the radiator (once re-installed)

And I'd consider rotating that winch 180*, so that it mounts backwards, instead of forwards. By so doing, the rope will drop in the rear of the winch (instead of the front) and can be wrapped under the winch when brought forward so that it'll clear that lower radiator /grill support?? Might even get a better angle on the front axle if you want also??

the winch is mounted the way it is so I have a clear shot to the front axle (don't want to constantly be yanking on the ram) The winch will alway's be hooked to the front axle.

IMO your going backwards from how it should be unless you plan on competeing with the rig. even down at the hammerz I used the winch on the nose my first trip--never did my second trip--and even the local stuff not being able to winch my nose down has never stopped me.. But its all personal prefernce.
