I dropped off the Willys the other day at James Koden's new shop. James has been doing custom rod work for a few years now.

I got started on the body work during the summer, but busy led to busier and it got stopped. I tried to put on the fiberglass hood that I got but the contours did not fit the tub. So I cut out the raised portion of the hood, with plans to cut out the metal hood and put this on. There it sat...

I purchased a new windshield frame, got it mounted but the frame is twisted. Second, the windshield brackets were different from the original and they hit on the cage. So, there it sat.

I knew James had his new shop and I've watched some of his custom rod builds. Mostly chopped rigs but some very nice work. So he's going to do the hood scoop for me, tweak the windshield frame so that it sits straight, mount all the glass and rubber, swap out the frame mounts from the old frame to the new one so that they won't hit the cage.

James also used to do custom lights and wiring for unmarked police cars and such in a former job. Knowing that he had access and knowledge of the market, I asked him to look into some stock looking LED lighting systems for the Willys. If he comes up with some good ideas, I'll have him get some LEDs to handle all the lighting needs and figure out a way to mount a signal lever and a high/low beam switch. I don't really have a steering column...

PS Crash, Jackson is almost bigger than me. When you see this again, we are going to have to find a way to move the seats back further. I think he'll be able to sit on the rear wheels to drive... The kid is going to be HUGE by the time he gets to drive it. I don't thing either of our butts is going to fit in a bucket seat. Time to see what there is for a flat or bench style seat. Just think about a 6'2" 310lb offensive lineman driving this Willys... That'll be little Jackson by the time he's 16.

James saw him for the first time in years. First thing he said was, "Holy crap, that's Jackson???"

James finished up on the windshield yesterday. I'd post the pics but it looks like I have to get my money paid up before I can post more pics.
 
No problem. It has been fun working with these rusty old windshield frame. Everything is swapped over and ready. Hood will be done and should be ready by the end of next week.

Crash, You did an awesome job on the cage!! I have followed your work for awhile and am very impressed with your attention to detail. Its not just a cage, it art!
 
Ya I have a hard time doing "ANYTHING" even remotely half assed,lol (and to think I am building my shop with the same mind set---save me,lol)...

Can't wait to see the fixed up goods and thanks its been a pretty unique rig to build.

So Rew-T Customs is making some progress. The hood is finished up and mounted, just need to cut the hole out to make room for the air cleaner once the engine is back in.

We decided to go the futuristic route. LED headlights, signals and brake lights, and fog lights.
James is diamond plating the messed up portion of the grill where the lights were so that new holes can be made for the new light configurations.
The dash is getting cut off to install an aluminum diamond plate dash that will screw on and then cut out the holes for the digital gauges. The switches will be mounted on the Ron Francis roll bar enclosure.
Good luck stealing this as I'm going with a remote start ONLY feature.

After trying what we can, there's no way that Jackson or I will fit with the seats where they are at, even if the pedals are modified. Going to push the seat mount back about a foot and look for a nice BENCH seat that our large behinds will fit on.:haha:

Doesn't every 1945 Willys have USB plug ins in the dash, digital gauges and LED lighting?

James and I had fun this afternoon planning some of the changes.
The air tank I got is about 1" too wide to fit between the fender wells and the storage compartments are rotted out. So, the inner fender wells are coming out.
He's going to move the seat mounts back 6.5" to make room for our long legs and big butts. I found seats that will fit perfect. They are the suspension seats that PRP makes for the Razor. We have 50.5" between the tubes and these are 48".
The batteries and 5 gallon air tank will fit behind the seat, right and in front of the fuel tank. Both of the compressors will be hidden and protected in what used to be the tool storage areas behind the rear fender wells. He's going to remove the fender wells completely then rebuild them and put a hinged top that allows easy accesses to the batteries and air system but also let's Jackson strap down a cooler on top. For FOOD of course...

I just about died laughing when I say the horns I bought. I should have paid attention to the details... The lanyard activation sold me but I should have paid attention to how BIG they were. I have NO idea how we'll find a spot fo these. Whoops :wtf:

The new dash is mostly done. The headlight switch is not in yet but that and the wiper switches will go on the left side of the steering wheel.

1 is the radio
2 is the winch controls
3 is the 12v power plug and dual USB power jacks
4 is the digital instrument cluster
5 is the future home of the headlight and wiper switches.
