    toyota e-locker issue

Hi 2001 Toyota Tacoma with TRD package. The rear differential lock light is flashing and will not go off even with the lever in the 2wd position. It is a rapid ON flash. When I got the truck, it had a different problem with a switch in the rear differential system and it had a different...

    oil changed--much darker than normal

1989 Toyota with 22RE. 225xxx miles. I just had the oil changed a few days ago. I had it changed at an auto repair facility near my apartment. I checked the level the next day and it was pretty dark for so-called new oil. I have been changing my own oil when I can and it has never been this...

4.0 Jeep engine smells like fuel

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 I-6 engine. This is my girlfriend's Jeep. I'm not too familiar with Jeeps. Smells like fuel under the hood. The injectors were replaced last year under some type of warranty or recall. The smell was the same that time too. It also seems to be guzzling...

    tire size question

Hi I found some tires for $100 on craigslist in 225/70R16 size. The vehicle for which they are for specifies 225/75R16 size. What is the downside to running 70 series where 75 series are specified?

    wheel stuck on car

Hi Twice every year my mom runs into this problem...the wheels on her car get stuck to the mounting flanges when swapping snow tires on or off. I've told her to loosen the lug nuts a bit and drive a little bit to see if that will loosen them, but that doesn't always work. Other than...

22RE timing cover remove and reseal...14 hours?

So my truck is leaking oil in the front and the local wrench turner that I use says 14.0 hours of labor and $1250. I can't afford that right now and don't know if it is worth fixing for that amount. Is this legit? The number of hours? 1989 Toyota with 22RE.

    fuel gage problem

1989 Toyota 4wd with 22RE. The fuel gage reads on E although I am pretty sure there is at least half a tank in it. I've looked around on the Internet for solutions and it seems it could be the fuel level sending unit inside the tank. If that is the case, what's the easiest--removing the bed...

    factory 4wd question

On a newer truck that doesn't have manual hubs, does the front drive shaft turn all the time? No mods--exactly the way it was made at the factory. I am thinking that to allow shift on the fly, it would have to be turning on a part-time 4wd system.

    how synchronized works

On a synchronized manual transmission, do the synchros only synchronize adjacent gears? Or do they synchro any gear? When I am in low range, sometimes I skip gears, like 3rd to 5th or 2nd to 4th because I don't need to do all the gears. Anybody know?

how long do your brakes last?

I recently checked the front brake pads on my truck and they still have good material on them. They have been on there for 5 years or so. How long do your brake pads last on your daily drivers?

    truck shifting shitty

My truck has been getting harder and harder to get into gear over the past month or so. It's gotten bad enough that I dread driving in town. I have topped off the reservoir, so it isn't that. It's like it does not want to go into the slot for any gear...kind of hangs in Neutral when I need to...

    tire/wheel storage

Hi I came across a deal too good to pass up and I now have an extra set of four tires/wheels. They were such a low price I feel like I stole 'em. What is the best way to store them? I have some unheated storage space that has a concrete floor. Should I inflate them to the regular running...

    tonneau cover problem

Hi I have a hard tonneau on my truck, and it's a SOB to open in the winter because it freezes to the truck. It has some kind of weather seal gasket which sticks to the metal of the truck bed. It doesn't tear when opened cold, but I think it probably will eventually. Is there some kind of...

looking for a special battery cable

Does anyone know where I can get a short cable that has spring loaded battery clamps (like a jumper cable) on one end and a cigarette lighter socket on the other end? I have called several parts houses with no luck. My dad had one, but I have no idea where he got it. TIA
